Healthy Basics is a limited group medical insurance program designed to provide basic medical coverage for the day-to-day medical expenses we all have. It is not meant to be a comprehensive medical plan.
The target population are those employees who cannot access group medical coverage due to cost, eligibility or availability.
Employers can use the Healthy Basics program for their part-time staff, those awaiting eligibility for their comprehensive program, and for those employees who have not elected to enroll in their comprehensive program.
Employers may also use this program as a stand-alone plan when no other group plan is offered to the employees (or class of employees).
It has minimal participation and contribution requirements and most benefits are subject to COBRA. The plans are not, however, available in all states. There is a listing of eligible states and minimum number of participants included below. Employers can select the Healthy Basics plan that best fits their employees’ needs; employers with over 51 eligible employees may offer two plans, and employers with over 250 employees may elect to offer up to 3 plans. Custom plans are also available to larger employers.
Custom enrollment brochures are available to assist employers in explaining the plans and their limitations to ensure that the benefits offered are understood clearly and explained consistently. Additionally, telephonic enrollment support is available for those employers needing help with plan explanation or enrollment. Plan administration is provided by Eagle Administrators, Inc., located in Ashland, Wisconsin.
There is no medical underwriting and no pre-existing condition clauses (except existing pregnancy in some states) if your employees enroll when they are initially eligible for coverage.
Please review the plan booklets for more detailed descriptions of benefits and limitations.
